Producer Defends Britney Spears After 'Alien' Without Auto-Tune Leaks

William Orbit, one of the producers and writers for Britney Spears' "Alien," has rushed to defend the pop star after a raw version of the song without Auto-Tune surfaced online this month. He said the recording came from a warmup session, explaining the pitchy vocals.

"I'd like to affirm that ANY singer when first at the mic at the start of a long session can make a multitude of vocalisations in order to get warmed up. ... I’ve heard all manner of sounds emitted during warmups," he said in lengthy Facebook post. "The point is that it is not supposed to be shared with millions of listeners."

Spears' vocals have been criticized since she catapulted into stardom in 1999 with "Baby One More Time," though over the years she's combated critics by pairing her soft airy tone on her pop and dance tracks with eye-grabbing music videos and live performances.

"Whomever put this on the Internet must have done so in a spirit of unkindness, but it can in no way detract from the fact that Britney is and always will be beyond Stellar! She is magnificent! And that’s that," Orbit wrote at the end of his message to fans and critics, which you can read in full below:

The finished version of "Alien" was released in 2013 as part of Spears' eighth studio album, Britney Jean, which she followed up with a two-year Las Vegas residency.

You can listen to the final studio rendition of "Alien," a song about loneliness, below:

Spears, 32, has yet to address the leak, opting to focus on her family and a new fragrance.
