Two Top Foursquare Execs, Including COO, Are Stepping Down

Less than a month after splitting its signature app in two, multiple Foursquare executives are also splitting from the company.

Chief Operating Officer Evan Cohen is leaving the company at the end of June, according to a company spokesperson. Foursquare's VP of Business Development Holger Luedorf is also leaving the company next month and will take up a similar position at Postmates. Both Cohen and Luedorf have been at Foursquare since 2010.

Cohen told Recode, which first reported the news, that he is leaving for personal reasons; namely, he's burnt out. “I was running low on gas, frankly, and it made sense for me to hand the baton off to a fresh new executive,” he said. Cohen will assume an advisory role with the company, and former Skyfire CEO and Travelocity CMO Jeffrey Glueck will take over as Foursquare COO in mid-June.

Foursquare's Mike Harkey, who has served in a business development capacity with the company since 2012, will take over for Luedorf.

"We couldn’t be more excited about Jeff and Mike’s new roles, and the continued momentum of Foursquare," a company spokesperson said in a statement given to Mashable. "Evan and Holger have been instrumental in growing Foursquare from a small shop to a company employing more than 170 people worldwide â€" without them we wouldn’t be where we are today."

Foursquare CEO Dennis Crowley told Recode that the company has been searching for a replacement for Crowley for six months, and the departure of Luedorf at the same time was purely "coincidental."

The timing is still interesting in that it comes less than a month after Foursquare dramatically shifted its business strategy. Instead of one major app, Foursquare now has two apps: Swarm, intended for keeping up with friends using the app's signature check-ins, and Foursquare, which will be more about discovering places nearby.
