To make a great buddy comedy you can use one of two formulas: two people whose solid friendship anchors the movie, or an odd couple thrown together who eventually discover they're more alike than they thought.
Instead of developing new characters to form lifelong friendships on screen, future writers and directors just have to figure out what fan fiction writers already know: The perfect pairs exist â€" they just live in different fictional worlds.
There are obvious barriers that divide them, such as time period and animation. But once you look past that, it's easy to see these characters are best friends that just haven't met yet â€" and their movies would be sure-fire hits.
1. Dobby (Harry Potter) and Gollum (Lord of the Rings)

Sensing he could use some company, Dobby invites Gollum to work in the kitchens of Hogwarts. The students are happy, but gradually bloat when he convinces the staff to exclusively serve doughnuts and onion rings.
2. Iron Man and Spider-Man

Their movie would mostly involve Iron Man besting poor Peter Parker, and Spider-Man sheepishly asking if he could possibly borrow one of his extra suits. And it would be adorable.
3. Buddy (Elf) and Giselle (Enchanted)

Buddy and Giselle meet by chance â€" a portal â€" and become world-famous motivational speakers. Conflicts arise, but they never stop smiling (or singing).
4. Cameron (Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and Scott Pilgrim (Scott Pilgrim)

Cameron's and Scott's friends introduce them, hoping their mirrored neuroses will help them move past each other; instead they form an a cappella group that only sings spirituals.
5. Janis Ian (Mean Girls) and Juno MacGuff (Juno)

Whatever task they needed to accomplish would get lost in a cloud of new nicknames and original slang, which future teens would eventually use in yearbook signatures for years to come.
6. Princess Mia (The Princess Diaries) and Princess Merida (Brave)

The young royals would spend their time discussing the burdens of rule and trade hair tips for unruly curls.
7. Katniss (The Hunger Games) and Juliet (Romeo+Juliet)

Katniss catches up with Juliet before her fated meeting with Romeo. After some archery training, Juliet decides to become a hunter and not concern herself with guys.
8. Sister Mary Clarence (Sister Act) and Reverend Shaw Moore (Footloose)

After discovering the positive influence that music and dance can have on teens, Mary Clarence and Shaw would open a youth performing arts center, then argue over what kind of music would offend the Lord.
9. Jaws (Jaws) and Doug (Up)

When Jaws is fitted for the speech collar, he's finally able to admit that he only wanted to hug the poor swimmers with his teeth. He and Doug become Sea World's greatest act.
