Shed Light on Your Cooking With This Phosphor LED Fixture

Even if you're the "Iron Chef" of you own home, if you can't fully see what you're chopping up for dinner, your guests may complain that little bits of fingernail are not part of the recipe. With that in mind, you might want to add under-cabinet lighting to complement your kitchen, and you definitely want to install something that could add real clarity to your cooking.

The new, dimmable Klauf Light Bar is unique for its remote phosphor and LED technology. That basically means that the light is highly mixed and fluid, meaning you'll see more even lighting on your work surface, which is better for all that veggie and meat chopping. The design also allows the lamp to stay cooler.

"The evenness of the color of light is important when you're cutting an onion on your countertop," said co-founder Joseph Lee. "You don't want any kind of displaced lighting color."

That's because, Lee said, with most traditional LED under-cabinet light fixtures or bars, the result can cause "multishadowing," which doesn't show your eyes the object as you would see it in natural daylight.

The intricacies of the lighting technology is further explained in the company's Kickstarter video and campaign page, which launched Thursday. Klauf Lighting hopes to raise $36,000. Backers can get early specials for the light bars, in both black or silver colors.

Because the Klauf Light Bar is a modular lighting system, it's linkable, which is great for spreading the light throughout your workspace (up to 15 feet).

"We just picture it like LEGO blocks: click, click, click and you have one long lamp," Lee said.
