LONDON â€" In 2011, Nokia launched its first Windows Phones â€" the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 â€" on stage during an event in London.
Nokia and Windows Phone have come a long way in the past two years, and on Tuesday the company added another handset to its Lumia line at an event in London, the Lumia 925. The phone will be Nokia’s flagship device at T-Mobile in the United States, and will be available in Europe and China starting in June.
Running Windows Phone 8, the handset sports much of the same functionality you’ll find in Nokia’s other flagship devices, the Lumia 920 and Lumia 928, while also bringing some new things to the table in terms of design and features.
Design
The Lumia 925 strays from Nokia’s current Lumia in the design department, trading polycarbonate in some places on the phone for aluminum. The result is a thinner, sleeker Lumia that resembles in a lot of ways some of its Android competition.
Polycarbonate does come into play in the rear of the device, which will come in black, white and grey.
Much like some of the other Lumia’s on the market, the phone will also be capable of wireless charging. Rather than build the wireless charging capabilities into the handset, however, wireless charging is done through a thin charging cover placed on the back of the phone.
The cover looks in many ways like a trendy case rather than a way to charge, and will come in white, yellow, black and red.
The phone has a 4.5†AMOLED WXGA (1280x768) display made out of sculpted Gorilla Glass 2. Much like Nokia’s other handsets the phone has a ClearBlack display for making blacks blacker, and has a super sensitive screen for using the phone while wearing gloves.
Smart Camera
Spec-wise, the Lumia 925 has an 8.7-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 1.2-megapixel forward-facing camera with a wide-angle lens for taking top-notch selfies.
One place the Lumia line, particular the Lumia 920, has been known to shine is its camera, and the Lumia 925 is no exception. Nokia says the camera has its “most advanced lens technology†as well as some next-generation imaging software, making it the ideal shooter for low-light photos.
We gave it a try with a demo unit, and have to agree. Images taken in low-light situations were astoundingly clear. In a dark room with light trickling in from a nearby window, we were able to take a photo with everything visible in the shot, just as if we were looking at the scene through the naked eye. With other smartphone cameras, the same shot might have resulted in just a photo of the bright window, with other parts of the image too dark to make out.
Much like the 920, it’s an impressive camera.
With the 925 Nokia is also introducing a new feature called Nokia Smart Camera, which captures 10 images at once, and then lets you edit the resulting photos with options such as Best Shot, Action Shot, and Motion focus for creating the ultimate finished image.
Smart camera will debut on the Lumia 925, but will eventually be released to all Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones.

Availability
The Nokia Lumia 925 is expected to be released in the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy and China in June for 469 Euros before taxes and subsidies. The phone will also be released for T-Mobile in the United States at a yet-to-be-determined price and time.
