A Mercy Call for Snowden and Other News You Need to Know

Welcome to this morning's edition of "First To Know," a series in which we keep you in the know on what's happening in the digital world.

Today, we're looking at three particularly interesting stories. The editorial board of the New York Times is calling for clemency for Edward Snowden, suggesting the whistleblower has done the United States a “great service” and should be allowed to return to his home country. Indiana, Tennessee and Nevada joined the list of 19 states that add sales tax to online Amazon orders. The Syrian Electronic Army gained access to Skype’s blog and Twitter and Facebook accounts on Wednesday. Early Thursday, Skype resolved the issue and tweeted that no user information was compromised.
