50 Shows With the Most Social Buzz in 2012

If you follow Trendrr's social TV rankings week-to-week, then you've grown familiar with some of the programs on the list, even if you don't watch them regularly. Now it's time to look back on the year's top 50.

This has been a standout year for The X Factor, FOX's vocal talent competition. Welcoming new judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, the show broke records for social participation in its season premiere. The X Factor placed predictably high in the year-end tally, edging out The Voice on NBC.

But in a year of singing competitions, the number one spot went to a pineapple under the sea. Yes, SpongeBob Squarepants was the most popular show in social media for the year 2012, beating out The X Factor by 5 million mentions. Perhaps his year-round broadcast status gave our porous, yellow hero an advantage (The X Factor debuted in late October), but SpongeBob's sustained popularity after nine seasons is still pretty impressive.

Find out what programs rounded out the top five, 10, and 50 in the chart below. Did your favorite show make the list? Let us know in the comments section.
