Forget all the rumors. The upcoming Star Wars film wonât be based on any existing plot â" itâs entirely original.
At least thatâs according to a report by E! Online. A LucasFilm source tells the entertainment website that, âItâs an original story.â
Online fans originally speculated that Episode 7 would bring Timothy Zahnâs Thrawn Trilogy â" a series of books considered part of Star Wars canon â" to the silver screen.
âOf all the speculation out there about the content of this new trilogy, thatâs the single most concrete idea,â Eric Geller, of fan site TheForce.net, told E!. âItâs almost inevitable that the story will take place in the same time frame as those books.â
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that one possibility being considered is âan Avengers-style movie universeâ featured in three more Star Wars films, as well as spinoff movies following individual characters.
So far, no directors have been attached to the project, sources also revealed.
Disney announced Tuesday that it was acquiring Lucasfilm LTD, including the Star Wars franchise, for more than $4 billion. The Burbank, Calif.-based company said it plans to release Episode 7 in 2015, and that more Star Wars films will be added to the franchise.
