Unstable Colorado Mudslide Holding Back Search for Three Missing Men

Authorities are still searching for three men that went to check on damage caused by a large mudslide in Colorado on Sunday.

The men, a road worker, his son and another man, disappeared after going to survey damage following a slide near Grand Mesa, a series of flat-topped mountains in Colorado, the Associated Press reported.

The search has been slowed by continued instability in the area and mud that could be hundreds of feet deep. The slide began when a half-mile piece of a rain-soaked ridged buckled and resulted in a three-mile long mudslide.

The AP spoke with the Mesa County sheriff who said that there was no sign of the men or the truck they had driven to the area. The slide happened on land closed to the public. There is not believed to be any damage to homes or other missing people.

In March, a massive mudslide hit near Oso, Wash., nearly wiping out the town and killing 41 people.
